Another sure fire way of creating a weight problem is by “going on a diet” which creates a negative pattern of deprivation thinking and then over-eating behaviour. Add into this mix the sugar rich snacks easily available to us, leading to sugar addiction and in addition the widely held but erroneous belief that we should be eating every few hours to avoid getting hungry, and then of course we will lose touch with the instincts that are natural to us and that are designed to ensure we are a healthy weight.

In addition, eating too much of those foods that are calorie dense, such as food and drinks that are high in sugar also contribute to weight gain.
You are usually over-eating when:
- You don’t chew your food thoroughly and therefore eat quickly. As a result you don’t notice your body’s signals telling you that you have eaten enough food and the taste buds in your mouth have not been fully satisfied which leads to wanting “something nice” after finishing a meal
- You deliberately ignore the signal that you are satisfied and continue eating
- You eat when you are not truly hungry but bored or stressed or feel an “need” to eat; very often this means snack food between your meals
Your past experiences have created your current relationship with your body’s needs and the food that you consume.
